In 1842, Timoteo Kamalehua Haʻalilio (1808-1844) was sent as a diplomat of the Hawaiian Kingdom, along with William Richards, to seek acknowledgement of Hawaiʻi's status as an independent nation. Following the successful completion of their quest, Timoteo died on his return home to Hawaiʻi. The letters between Timoteo and his  mother, ʻEseta Kipa, record the arduous nature of his diplomatic mission.

A mele for Kaulia, loyal patriot of Liliʻuokalani who fought to have sovereignty rightfully restored.

He Ohohia No Kaulia

This mele for Queen Lili'uokalani was inspired by the sentiment of an article in Ke Aloha Aina and evokes the most deepest affection and resolve.

Makuahine O Kona Lāhui

A mele written in Ka Elele Poakolu, Volume II, Number 25, 24 August 1881, and performed by ʻIkaʻakamai Nāhuewai. Tune adapted from ʻAround the Worldʻ by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Kaena a Kalākaua

A medley composed by Z. P. Kalokuokamaile of his love for the Kona district - billowing clouds like blossoms of hīnano, the waters of Hāliʻilua, the sacred cliffs of Keōua, the Kēhau breeze, the honeycreeper birds, the ʻōʻō and the ʻiʻiwi.
